How does your experience prepare you for the duties of this office?

As an educator, I understand the importance of teachers, standards, curricula, assessments and what contributes to a quality education. I believe in parents as a child’s first teacher, who know what will best meet their individual needs. As a dean of education in Colorado, I advocate for what works.

What would you like the voters to know about you?

I believe in the power of education to change the destiny of an individual and a nation. I started out teaching special education in Douglas County and have worked for quality education ever since. What students learn in the classroom today become policies of the government tomorrow, so it matters.

How does your experience prepare you for the duties of this office?

I would be the only businessman on the board. I have hired and fired people from education systems from across the world. I have worked with our education system and I am pro-teaching critical thinking skills to our youth. I bring a rounded perspective as to what businesses are looking for in future employees.

What would you like the voters to know about you?

I care about our kids and grand kids. For over 30 years, it has been my ongoing passion to improve our youth through education. Our children are not political pawns, but the future, and they deserve the best opportunities to become critical thinkers and to succeed in a global economy.

How does your experience prepare you for the duties of this office?

In addition to being an involved parent in my local school and district, I’m the former owner and CEO of a private chain of language schools in Japan. As a parent to a child with disabilities, I know how to work with a team to overcome seemingly impossible challenges.

What would you like the voters to know about you?

I’m a parent with school age children. I volunteer weekly in my church and children’s school. I advocate for my son with autism and all diverse learners. I believe parents should have a strong voice in our state’s educational system. Colorado needs less testing and more respect for professional educators.
